Leung Yee Tai

Leung Yee Tai was a member of the Red Boat Opera Troupe, in the 1850′s. Since females were not permitted in the opera,  males would play their roles in “drag”. Leung played the role of Mo-Deng or the female lead. In some accounts, Leung was a poler, not an actor (someone who used a long pole to help steer the boat when in shallow waters).

He was the Ving Tsun student of Wong Wa Po, trading with Wong his knowledge of the Look Dim Poon Kwan for knowledge of Wing Chun Kuen.

Some say that, Leung Yee Tai represented the "female" method of Ving Tsun and Wong Wa Po represented the "male" side of Ving Tsun.
